High Cholesterol and Triglyceride Treatment in Dwarka
Cholesterol is not treated by the number alone. It is treated according to your overall risk of a heart attack or stroke.
Reading a lipid profile properly
LDL cholesterol is the main treatment target. Triglycerides respond strongly to sugar, refined carbohydrates and alcohol. HDL matters, but raising it artificially has not been shown to help.
Indian patients frequently show a pattern of high triglycerides with low HDL, often alongside fatty liver and insulin resistance — which is why lipids, sugar and liver are assessed together.
Who needs medication
The decision depends on your calculated cardiovascular risk, not on whether one value is flagged high on the report.
- Existing heart disease or previous stroke — treatment is standard
- Diabetes with additional risk factors
- Very high LDL suggesting a familial lipid disorder
- Strong family history of early heart disease
- Otherwise, a defined trial of diet and activity with repeat testing first
What changes actually work
Cutting refined carbohydrate and sugar lowers triglycerides quickly. Reducing fried and processed food, losing visceral fat and consistent aerobic activity all improve the profile. These are not a substitute for statins in high-risk patients, but they change the dose required and the rest of your health.
